I write books for the joy of it. No matter the age range or genre, I write books I would want to read. But “Oodles of Noodles” (Little Bee Books, July 2026) goes far beyond mere enjoyment (though that’s what the illustrations show).
No one would ever have guessed (least of all me) that I’d end up writing a STEM book. And yet, here we are.
As a counting book, Oodles helps build children’s confidence in using and understanding numbers and early math concepts.
Part of the fun of “Oodles of Noodles,” beyond the illustrations, is the rhyming of the text. It’s not only fun to read but also encourages little kids to listen carefully to how words sound, not just what they mean. The repetition of certain sounds also encourages pattern recognition.
Math was always my weakest subject. If this book helps even one kid find more confidence, success, or joy in numbers than I did, I’ll take that as a quiet win.
Picture Books and Board Books may seem short and simple on the outside, but they have a huge influence on our youngest readers and can help create a fun and stable educational base for all kids to start from. I’m also a big fan of simple story time and fabulous illustrations. Whether you’re reading it on the couch or in the classroom, point to the animals, repeat your favorite pages, and smile. That’s the whole idea.
